Hey, guys! Mozart here, to talk about something that plagues all big dogs and their owners.
In the north, it’s snowing. In the south, floods are still possible from rains that fell for weeks. In the midst of weather mayhem, George and I just want to go outside. If your dogs are like us, you spoil them rotten and want to give them absolutely everything they want. But…your carpet! Your furniture! And, of course, the bath that must inevitably occur after a roll in the mud.
Fortunately, George and I have figured out how to avoid some of the biggest messes with a little bit of planning. Here are 4 tips to keep your big dog dry (or at least keep your house cleaner) when the weather outside is frightful.
Find Pup Boots
Now, look: George and I aren’t crazy about wearing them, but boots are actually a good idea. The ability to remove your dog’s rain boots before they come inside is just one big benefit to finding them some footwear. For many, dog boots also make wandering outside over ice, snow, and salted sidewalks safer. Think about it: do you want to walk around barefoot in snow?
The truth is, your dog will probably need to get used to the boots before wearing them on a regular basis. If you’re firm and insistent, your dog will eventually obey. Then you’ll get the benefit of removable footwear—no more muddy paw prints!—and your dogs’ feet will stay healthy.
Buy a Bath Sheet
After a serious rain, no ordinary towel will do. Giant bath sheets are the best for big, big dogs because they have plenty of absorption power. Keep one of these by the door when you’re ready to go outside, and it will be right there within arm’s reach when you return.
And we love getting dried off! It’s a brisk rub, which feels great, and we get the chance to goof off with you. Your dog will wait around for that big towel every time.
Absorbent Bath Mats
Let’s be honest: most door mats are for aesthetic purposes only. You might be able to knock some dirt off your shoes before going inside, but that little straw mat isn’t designed to hold up against our big muddy puppy paws.
Consider buying a mat that does exactly what you need it to do: absorb lots of water. And where do you usually find those types of mats? Right next to your tub or shower! These are also perfect for just inside the door, where they can absorb the water from your fluffy friend’s paws.
If you use the bath mat and the bath sheet together, your dog will definitely be ready to join you elsewhere in the house.
Giant Rain Coats
When it’s really coming down outside, your best bet isn’t towels and mats for cleaning up after the fact—it’s a rain coat that helps you avoid a mess to begin with. The problem for big dog owners is that finding a rain coat that fits can be a challenge. We know; it’s something our humans struggled with for a long time!
You’re in luck! We solved the problem and took it upon ourselves to create a raincoat for us big guys. We created the Rain Rover Raincoat by HugeHounds (that’s our company). We specialize in HUGE like us—Saint Bernards, Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, you know all the big breeds. Take a look at our big dog fashion so you and your pup can enjoy time outside, regardless of the weather.
Expect big things!
