Hi hoomans!
It’s George, one of your favorite Huge Hounds, here to talk to you about something I can’t put off any longer. It’s drool. You know—the slobber. Some dogs can drool more than others. It’s all in the genetics.
Saint Bernards and Mastiffs are some of the biggest droolers—they’re in the top 10 droolers of all time! Wouldn’t you know…Mozart is part Mastiff and I’m a proud Saint Bernard. That means we’re valedictorians of the Drool School.
When we drool, we encounter a wide range of reactions. Our mom and dad know that drool rules, but strangers can sometimes overreact.
Here’s the thing: drool is natural, especially for dogs like Mozart and me. All dogs (and people too!) need extra help breaking down their food when we eat. So, we all produce saliva. That’s right! Even hoomans drool!
When my mom gets out food of any kind – whether it’s for her or for me – all the saliva comes pouring into my mouth. People and some other kinds of dogs can just swallow it, but it’s just not that easy for Mozart and me.
Some Huge Hounds like us, and even some smol pups, who have droopy jowls have pockets between those jowls. That means our jaws hold some of the extra saliva. Sometimes, the overflow comes dripping out in a line of sticky drool.
Hoomans that aren’t used to the slobber might say, “Ew.” Before you say, “Ew,” remember this: the drool does its part to keep the skin around our mouths moist, but too much of it can irritate our skin.
You should also be on the lookout for unusual drool. By that, I mean excessive or maybe even foamy drool. This could indicate illness of some sort—usually a tummyache. We may have eaten something we shouldn’t have, which can trigger the slobber in an effort to fight off the nausea.
So, what can you do to help us contain the drool so that we don’t experience future health issues? Get a DroolRag! Here’s why:
- They’re Soft
We know you want the best for us. Just taking your old dishrag to wipe our jowls can irritate our skin even more, which is even worse than just letting it sit there. If you rub our jowls with a DroolRag, it’s like getting a soft massage, which tells us you love us.
- They’re Easy
And because we love you, we want our drool clean-up to be easy for you. DroolRags have drool-grabbing pockets that will absorb all of the slobber. The material is super absorbent, so you don’t need to worry about it soaking through. Clean-up is easy, too. Just throw it in the washing machine when you’re done.
- They’re Ready to Go
Worried about our drooling when we’re on the go? There’s no need. DroolRags come in a really cool container, and they’re made to attach to a belt, bag, or backpack. Just throw it on when you’re ready to take us out for our W-A-L-K. (Yes, we can spell.)
- They’re Made with Love
Best of all, DroolRags are made with love by people who have us Huge Hounds in mind. They know the best ways to take care of us puppers, so we want to show them our love too.
So, now you know. Drool is important for our digestive and skin health, but too much can be a bad thing. Love your drooly pups. Click here to find out more about DroolRags! Remember: a portion of anything you buy from HugeHounds goes to help other Huge Hounds like us find safe, happy homes. Maybe you want two DroolRags? Or even three?
Love,
